Therapeutic Ultrasound:

Ultrasound is a therapeutic treatment using high-frequency sound waves administered in the region to soft tissue injuries.  Sound vibrations, as fast as a million times per second, penetrate the tissues deep in the body, creating a heat response.

Purpose of therapeutic ultrasound is:

  • It promotes faster healing

  • Early on in treatment its sonic waves and vibrations help to push out inflammation, edema (the after-fluid of inflammation) from the damaged tissue.

  • Later on in treatment the sonic waves and vibrations help to break up adhesions and scar tissue to improve mobility.

Electric Muscle Stimulation:

Electric Muscle Stimulation is a therapeutic treatment that transmits electrical impulses into muscle tissue.

Purpose of electric muscle stimulation is:

  • Early on in treatment plan EMS stimulates the body to release its own natural pain killers, aka: endorphins.

  • Later on in the treatment plan EMS stimulates the muscle tissue and helps to re-educate the damaged muscle how to contract properly.
